7 Tips to help you get out of your contract early
1. Find someone willing to take it over.
This is what Cellout.ca used to help its users with. There are alternatives to Cellout.ca such as: Cellclients.com, CellSwapper Canada, Cell Trade USA, UsedCanada.com that can help you find someone to take over your contract.
2. Sell your phone.
If you've got a popular phone you could try selling it and using the proceeds to pay down the early termination fee.
3. Be a squeaky wheel.
Call your provider and complain every chance you get. Be polite, ask to speak to a manager, plead your case, and reason with them.
4. Contracts exist for a reason.
You're not allowed to pay your bill whenever you feel like it and your provider isn't allowed to change their features and/or fees whenever they feel like it. Monitor your monthly statements closely - if your provider takes away a feature that is a key part of your contact (i.e. call display, voicemail, etc) or increases fees you may have grounds to cancel your contract.
5. Move.
Some providers will allow you to cancel your contract, without penalty, if you move to an area where service is not offered.
6. Ask them to produce a signed copy of the contract.
If they can't produce it you may be able to argue your way out of the contract. If it doesn't exist what's binding you?
